Some Odd Symptoms

I have been treating a lady for a couple of months for some ‘odd symptoms’! They were disabling and unpleasant and emotionally very unsettling for her. Let me tell the story…

She had been experiencing balance issues. This is nothing especially unusual as people get older.
They can be caused from ear infections, problems with fluid changes in the inner ear canals (part of the balance ‘anatomy’ or even tiny stones developing within the semi-circular canals.

These balance issues were giving her dizziness and vertigo.

The classic solution is to use the Epley Procedure to, in turn, let these tiny stones move around the three canals and out of the way, thereby allowing the fluids in the canals to flow properly when you move your head etc. (There are 3 canals in different orientations so that all directions of movement can be interpreted and understood.)

For her this was not working, even though it had in two previous episodes years ago.

The imbalance issues were also accompanied by a tight neck, especially under the base of the skull; left handed tinnitus and being able to hear her heart beating in her right ear (from percussion from the Carotid Artery as it passes very nearby).

When I examined her head and neck I found that there were a number of issues which had clearly built up over time - to give the now persistent symptoms she was experiencing - which meant she was no longer driving any distance nor sometimes even able to get out of bed!

  • Her circulation to and from her neck and head had changed.

  • I found a sagging of the brain stem towards her Foramen Magnum - which allows the brain stem and spinal cord to pass through the skull - not an uncommon finding.

  • Reduced drainage from the internal skull through the neck to the chest - her brain felt clogged and a bit toxic.

  • The neck tightness was exacerbating the above and causing headaches too.

It was an unhappy picture and had radically altered what she was able to do each day, including not driving. Sometimes having to lie still all the time. Moving very slowly. Feeling unconfident with her body etc.

By using my skills as a cranio-sacral therapist I have been able to restore most of the function to her chest, neck and head over a few sessions. It is slow work as ‘one part relates to another, and to another’ but it all makes inroads into the structure and function.

Annoyingly!, after just three treatment sessions when things were improving markedly - she tripped over! As well as falling flat on her face (EEEeekk!!) she also bent her right big toe back badly - causing bruising and pain.

Therefore, during that treatment session as well as focussing on the top part, I also rebalanced the poor toe! She came back the next week reporting that her life-long hammer toe had now also resolved! She also realised a long-passed cause of much of her anxiety and fear over a lifetime - from talking with me during her treatment sessions. This is also now being addressed!

It all just goes to show that even long term issues can be resolved and sometimes things that seem to have been of recent origin are showing up simply because they have reached breaking point and the body is now informing you as they can no longer compensate and cope!

Take the hint! Get it seen to by someone who can actually help vs try masking the symptoms with suppressing drugs.
