T’ai Chi Classes

What is T’ai Chi?

The art of T’ai Chi can be traced back to ancient China. T’ai Chi is based on a set of principles of moving and of living, that if practiced, restore harmony to the body, enhance the flow of essential body energy, Chi, and with it, improving health, prosperity and longevity.

Central to T’ai Chi is the practice of sequences of movement called Forms. Developed over centuries, by countless masters these fluid dances, practiced slowly and gracefully with the breath, improve posture, energy, balance, strength and flexibility.

Originating in China, Tai Chi is an ancient form of energy cultivation and self-defence. It has also been described as a moving meditation. The slow, flowing movements promote well-being and can be practised by most people, young or old. With Tai Chi, one may attain exceptional mental and physical health and vitality.

The classes at Living Elements

I teach T’ai Chi as a moving health art and tailor it to the needs of each group and individual. These classes start with simple repetitive standing exercises; fluid motions involving shifting weight coordinated with breath, hands and arms. The exercises build through the class into full movements from the Forms. Students start by learning just the first few moves of the Forms and gradually, over the course, more movements are introduced to you.

There is no rush; the classes are small and we will learn at a comfortable rate for all. Classes at Living Elements are ideal for beginners. All ages are welcome although the ability to stand for most of the hour for the classes is preferred. Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in.
