Simon Barkworth
Simon Barkworth began practicing yoga with Jenny Beeken in 2003, and is a graduate from the Inner Yoga Trust teacher training programme. Simon’s enthusiasm for yoga developed from an interest in anatomy. During his time studying fine art at Sheffield Hallam University, he began sculpting the human figure, and consequently developed knowledge of external anatomy and posture. Attending weekly yoga classes with Jenny he soon realised that there was much more to human anatomy than learning from books and observation. With regular practice of the asanas (postures) and guidance from experienced teachers, he became aware of his own limitations and the postural habits of his body. He also came to understand how tensions develop into mental habits.
Through the Inner yoga teacher training Simon learnt how the breath, meditation and posture can improve an awareness of self and our relationship to others. He now appreciates and understands the importance of the body’s movement.
He practices daily and hopes to give his students an ability to discover for themselves how yoga can provide multiple benefits. This might be simply to remove daily tension and ease movement, or to develop a more serious practice of your own.
Simon is influenced by teachers who have worked with Vanda Scaravelli, who trained with Sri B.K.S Iyengar. Scaravelli developed her understanding of yoga through exploring the relationship she had with gravity, breath and movement of the spine. Through these principals, passed on by dedicated practitioners, Simon has been inspired to teach others.
He is happy to discuss and answer questions about his or any other practice of yoga. He is also free for private one to one sessions.
