HELP! Get me Healthy NOW!

Dear Friend,

Do you have health issues or concerns? Do they keep you awake at night as you ponder how to help them, and you, but don’t know how? Do you feel that going to the doctors isn’t the way forward or it is too trivial to bother them with?
Yes? Well you are not alone. Most people get “stuck” at some time in their lives. (more…)

Omega-3 oil and children

“Health is precious and you can’t put a value on your health.

Quality early nutrition is key to lifelong health and performance.”

Dr Diane Clayton November 2009

Low nutrient intakes,

Inefficient use of nutrients                 →cause

Macronutrient imbalance

Nutritional dilution

  • Developmental changes and effects
  • Inefficient metabolism
  • Altered growth patterns
  • Excess weight gain

A calorie overload and the wrong balance between proteins, carbohydrates and fats is the primary cause.

70-80% of ideal nutrition is OK for many nutrients in the short term, but the % that is missing is causing problems with things like – less attention, mood changes

The shape (morphology) of our children is changing because of poor nutrition in utero (ie caused by the Mum’s diet) and their own diets, plus not taking enough exercise.

Childhood obesity predisposes them to obesity the rest of their lives.

A Study funded by EU in 2004 – stated 14m children are overweight in the EU, and 3m are classified as obese. This was worse in Southern Europe, especially Turkey. Cole et al BMJ 320 1240-1243 (2000)

Too little Omega-3 oil in diet Madden et al (2009)

Too much saturated fat (Prof Keletzko et al (2000) causes an imbalance in the immune system and bad blood fat profile Causes inflammation.

The Cost to UK public health in 2010 – for ALL obesity = >£4bn = 10% of all NHS budget

High quality dietary fats are required in this order:

Salmon oil > olive oil > bacon (now, almost every country have their own variation on our bacon breakfasts!)

Omega-3 Oils (there are 8 in the family)

The effects of fat intake are also altered by the QUALITY OF THE FAT

DHA and EPA both balance the immune function and inflammation. They influence the immune signals to the body.

Inflammation is part of the immune function

-         neutralises and repairs damage and O3 acts as an inflammatory mediator.

-         The quality of the reaction depends on the quality of the fat intake.

-         Arachidonic act which primarily causes the inflammation is replaced by EPA and DHA and their enzymes. These O3 oils cause inflammatory mediators – now called “Resolvins” that were only found in 2004 to act.

-         They decreased the likelihood of the child developing asthma when Mums took O3 during pregnancy. Olsen et al (2008) Copenhagen

A cross country project by Antora et al (2003)  with projects in 6 countries that looked at 20,000 children in Europe.

They looked at the diets of children between 7-11years for O3, anti-oxidant levels from fruit and veg and vitamins.

Found < respiratory problems with higher levels of all of these

Found that they helped the lung barrier function

 Altered mucous membrane function

Also there was a synergistic effect between these foods – so the sum was greater than the effect of the component parts of the diet.

Flavonoids protect you from inflammation, protect the DNA, help cell division – meiosis (reproduction) and mitosis (growth)

1 portion of fruit or veg is approximately equal to 80g of food. Children need 7-8 portions at least per day.

Again GNLD can help here with some wholefood supplements – Carotenoid Complex, Flavonoid Complex and Cruciferous order here online

The RDA’s (recommended daily intake) for phytonutrients so far do not exist, unlike the RDA’s for most vitamins and minerals.

But we know that slow growing cancers such as prostate cancer can be stopped with nutrition. In fact they may even be more effective than chemotherapy and other treatments, plus they are safer!

The immune system requires large amounts of protein, phyto-nutrients, good fats and probiotics to work properly because the Always HAVE TO BE “ON GUARD” FOR BODY HARMING SUBSTANCES.

There are lowered immune function states in sports people – as they are working at the end of their limit – this is why they need more protein (some chemicals which are needed include arginine, glutamine, cysteine that are found in protein drinks)

The gut makes up 60% of the immune system – so can have massive effects on the child and development if it doesn’t function properly due to poor diet.

Prof Rowland from University of Reading – advocates use of probiotics, and also to prevent allergies in children. Some probitics also produce Vitamin B that are also needed for boosted immune function. I recommend GNLD Acidophilus a combination of 5 high potency probiotics for quality and effectiveness.

He found that if you give 2 daily supplements of lactobacillus to children they had reduced incidence of coughs and colds in the winter – children in study were all 5yo and also had a reduction in days off school – which has a huge financial impact (parents off work to provide childcare etc)

BRAIN FUNCTION

Miriam Makrides 2009, Helland et al 2003 Judge et al 2007

The amount of maternal Omega-3 intake – gave changes to performance and behaviour etc of the child

Low DHA levels found at birth – resulted in behavioural problems still in children aged 7 yo+. (Krabbendam et al 2007)

O3 and other micronutrients, > performance at school (Sinn et al 2008)

Prof Benson from Swansea Uni., looked at many studies but often found that in studies where the expected results “did not work” it was due to poor compliance and inadequate nutrition.

Omega-3 Salmon Oil Plus is specifically recommended for ALL pregnanat and lactating women by the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, London since Summer 2009.

The Nemo Study – a comparison between Indonesian and Australian diets 2007:

There was a correlation between levels of micro-nutrients and performance (?) and then they added DHA/EPA, but there was little effect because the levels taken were so little! Good study but not thought through properly.

Attention at school – BJNut Haskell et al (2008) using multivitamins and minerals > attention in school children

Vit B and choline – helps neurotransmitters and symptoms

Vitamin C necessary for nerve function

Iron – for brain development and neuro-transmitter production

Proteins – for development and function of the brain

O3 – structure, function, regulation and protection in the brain

HEART FUNCTION

O3 establishes the right heart beat in the foetus!!

GNLD O3 Salmon oil plus enriched the red blood cell phospholipids in the membranes with DHA/EPA (Carughi et al 2008)salmon-oil-pot

Reduced inflammatory index by 68% in 8 weeks. Inflammation also = pain!

Significantly reduced triglycerides (cholesterol etc)

Participants averaged 50yo in the 8 weeks study and took 3 caspules of GNLD O3 Salmon oil plus a day.

On meta-analysis children are recommended to take a conservative 0.5g minimum per day and the same for adults. But, there are no RDA’s and most studies have been done using far higher levels of O3!

For most children I would recommend 2-3 capsules per day. Take WITH food (to help it be digested easily). If they find it hard to swallow, mix it with fish in their sandwich’s – they will never know! Some like to chew the capsules, they like the taste of the oil.

I have found it is exceptionally helpful for children with:

  • ADHD
  • Hyperactivity
  • Poor concentration levels
  • growth pains – use it as a painkiller to reduce the inflammation
  • to help neurone activity at school, especially exams
  • for any heart / circulatory conditions in kids and adults
  • helps diabetic regulation

GNLD Omega-3 Salmon Oil Plus – a truly unique product containing ALL 8 members of the Omega-3 family of oils that have been checked for 160 contaminants with a zero-tolerance policy and blended before completing its processing.

To order yours now and start its powerful work go to the online shop at http://www.livingelements.co.uk/?page_id=2211 It is just £22 for a pot of 90 capsules.

If you or your child has benefitted please let me know, and pass on the good word to others who could be helped. Salmon Oil Plus is NOT AVAILABLE in the shops, so many do not know what a vaulable support it can be.

Sleeping through the night at six weeks!

12th September 2009

Dear Gayle,

I just wanted to say a massive thank you for helping Thomas. He is SO much happier, it really is amazing – I never thought it would be possible to have a baby who slept through the night at six weeks!

Many, many thanks,

Gabby and Neil Harrison

Osteopathy for Teenagers and Young People

Many of you will know that osteopaths treat low back pain and sciatica (a nasty pain in the leg because of a trapped nerve) but that is usually for middle aged and “old people”. Some may know that cranial osteopaths, like Gayle Palmer, treat babies and young children for colic, persistent crying, squints, birth trauma, recurrent chest infections etc.

But What about young people and teenagers?
